As I have already covered a few favorites and some longshots for this week’s PGA Championship at Southern Hills, it’s time to dig into the Best Bets to try and earn ourselves a little bit of extra spending cash.

Cameron Smith +2200 to win (DraftKings/PointsBet)

As mentioned earlier this week, Smith is a great option as he combines great iron play with an amazing short game. He also appears to have received a great weather draw. Those who have an AM tee time on Thursday and a PM tee time on Friday could see a massive advantage each day as we could see wind gusts in excess of 40 mph Thursday afternoon into Friday morning. He is in the opposite wave of many of the favorites in this event (Scheffler, Rahm, Thomas, etc).

Robert MacIntyre Top 40 +200 (BetMGM)

MacIntyre checks a lot of boxes, as I noted in our Longshots discussion, and has played great in majors in his career. He has made the cut in all eight majors finishing top 40 in five of them. Similar to Smith, he is also on the correct end of the expected weather draw. This number should be closer to +120.

To continue with the theme, we are targeting three more players with a weather advantage. I honestly think we may see a three to four-shot edge over the first 36 holes depending on the tee time wave. Traditionally, there tends to be value in made-cut bets in the PGA Championship for a few reasons. The cut this week is 70 and ties as opposed to 65 and ties in a normal week on Tour. Also, the 156-player field contains 20 club professionals and some past champions so realistically we have about 130 players vying for those 70 and ties. All three of these players have impeccable major resumes, great course fit and come into this event in great form.

Xander Schauffele has made 16 of his last 19 cuts in majors and has only missed five cuts in his last 52 events overall. He ended last week on fire rallying from the bottom of the field in the second round to a 5th place finish come Sunday. He ranks top 20 in this field in approach, putting, bogey avoidance, three-putt avoidance, and sand saves.

Jordan Spieth has made 25 of his last 28 cuts in majors and has only missed the cut three times in his last 31 events overall. He comes into this event in great form after winning at the Heritage and narrowly losing out to KH Lee last week. Spieth has been striking the ball great as of late and has always had an amazing short game to recover around the green.

Hideki Matsuyama is back to full health as we chronicled a week ago before the Byron Nelson. He has made 29 of his last 34 cuts in majors and has only missed 14 cuts in his last 133 events overall. Matsuyama played great last week en route to a third-place finish. His game is a perfect fit for this course as he is an elite iron player and is an extremely underrated chipper and pitcher of the ball.
