Since we missed one in 2020, will there be two shining moments at this year’s NCAA Tournament? Either way, we’re excited March Madness is back.

Event season

Folks, it’s almost time! We’ve been itching to host Fried Egg events for more than a year, and we’re finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

The first of our new slate of 2021 events will open for sign-ups today! Registrations for the Stalemate at Meadowbrook and the Cheesesteak at Rolling Green will become available in the Fried Egg Pro Shop at 12 p.m. ET, as will the lottery for the Coup de Grâce at the Dunes Club. There are also a few tee times still available for the Boomerang at Soule Park on April 24, if you’d like to join us there.

In regards to the new events, the Coup de Grâce will kick us off with two-man match play at Mike Keiser’s Dunes Club on Thursday, May 27. We’ll have the place to ourselves and a lot of golf to play. The field will be limited to 32 players (s/o Kapalua), so we’re going to use a lottery system to grant spots in the event. The lottery will remain open until next Thursday, March 25, and we will notify the winners soon afterwards.

Next up is the Stalemate at Meadowbrook Country Club. Recently redesigned by Andy Staples, Meadowbrook features striking contours that are fun both to look at and to play over. This will be a 100-player field, and teams of two will play 18 holes of best ball in the morning and three six-hole, alternate-shot matches in the afternoon. A shootout at the end of the day will determine our champions.

The last event we’re opening up today is the Cheesesteak at Rolling Green Golf Club. This event will follow the same format as the Stalemate and will be played on an expertly restored William Flynn design. Close to the summer solstice, this long day will be filled with as much golf as possible!

At every event, we will prioritize safety, following all Covid guidelines to make sure everyone has a great, stress-free day. One final note: registrations for Meadowbrook and Rolling Green will be first come, first serve, so make sure to set your clocks. Hope to see a bunch of you out there! Zero to 61

The field at the PGA Tour’s Honda Classic got off to a blazing start on Thursday. After a year when no one did better than 66 at PGA National, three players shot 64 or lower during the morning wave yesterday. Matt Jones birdied his final three holes to tie the course record of 61, beating the field average by more than 10 shots. Aaron Wise and Russell Henley both opened with 64s while defending champion Sungjae Im recorded a relatively mild 68 on Thursday. Leaderboard

Shotgun Start: What’s your favorite Honda?

This Friday episode begins with some quick reactions to the first day at the Honda Classic, where Matt Jones may have posted the round of the year. Andy provides some intel on the Swamp draw differential that Jones took advantage of in the morning. There’s also discussion on the entire fleet of Honda vehicles and which one is best, as well as an effort to figure out what the company sponsoring the KFT event actually does. Masters Fact of the Day is on the cracker barrel (not that one) and Cheez-It procurement. A twofer Precision Pro Flashback Friday hits first on Bruce Lietzke, the 1984 Honda winner, who played an extremely unique schedule while at the top of his game and also nearly missed a tee time while looking for a hot dog. The second Flashback focuses on 1996 Honda winner Tim Herron, who won it early in his rookie year by edging John Daly as the longest off the tee and opening with a first round (much like Matt Jones) that some thought was a scoreboard malfunction. The 1996 Flashback is also an occasion to bring up a wildly amusing story on two players arriving via helicopter and fire truck at the golf course, as well as some sharp critiques of TPC Eagle Trace, the TPC Network, and Greg Norman’s relationship to that network.
