As golf fans, we love to return to a familiar place. A place that feels like home. Where we know every nook and cranny, every cart path and catch basin, every riveted face and containment mound. That’s why we’re so excited to get back to Tiburón Golf Club for this week’s Greg Norman-hosted QBE Shootout! Everyone’s favorite LIV Golf Investments recruiting trip two-man hit-and-giggle starts on Friday.

Normally the silliest of all silly season events, the Shark Shootout may actually carry some consequence this year, though not because of anything that will happen on the course. Norman has held this event under the PGA Tour umbrella for a long time. But given his leadership of LIV Golf Investments and its Saudi-funded effort to undercut the Tour’s business, the future of the QBE Shootout seems, to say the least, uncertain. Furthermore, multiple players in the field—Lee Westwood, Jason Kokrak, Ian Poulter, Bubba Watson, and Graeme McDowell—have committed to next year’s Saudi International and are seeking a release from the PGA Tour. Their involvement in that tournament doesn’t guarantee that they’re on the Norman train, but it certainly suggests as much. Whether or not these players end up making the leap from #LUPLand to #LIVLand, they are all guaranteed nearly $90,000 in prize money this week. You know, just so they don’t feel like they’re wasting their time…
