Phil Mickelson leads with two to go at Pebble Bach

by

Only 70 holes of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am were played over the weekend, despite Phil Mickelson’s pleas to play in the dark. Hail and severe winds delayed Sunday’s action by a couple hours, and the final group was unable to get in before the sun went down. The final group will tee off at 8 am to finish up the final two holes of the event, with Phil holding a 3-shot lead over Paul Casey. Pebble Beach Leaderboard

Lights Out

It was very dark when they suspended play on Sunday. Phil tried his best to play the final two holes, but Paul Casey did not feel comfortable finishing and made the right call to stop playing. Casey started the day with a three-shot lead, but Phil’s stellar play has given him the lead heading into Monday morning. Lefty is six-under on the final round and is in complete control of the tournament. As long as he keeps his ball out of the ocean tomorrow morning, he will capture his 5th win at Pebble Beach and 44th PGA Tour victory.

Other Leaderboard Notes

Paul Casey hasn’t played poorly through 16 holes of the final round, but he was run over by Phil. Casey has had an issue closing events in the past, so his performance isn’t exactly surprising. He is tied with Scott Stallings, who shot a final-round 66 to shoot up into a tie for 2nd at the moment. Stallings made 8 birdies on Sunday with the second best round of the day so far.

Pebble Beach stalwart Jason Day currently sits in a tie for 4th place. Day has always played well in the Pebble pro am and is someone you can always pencil in for a top 10 at this event.

Max Homa (67) and Kevin Streelman (65) joined Scott Stallings with the low rounds of Sunday to vault into the top 10. Homa is a PGA Tour rookie, and a top 10 will go a long way for his status this season. He is guaranteed into Riviera next week and will need every FedExCup point he can get this year.

Vic Open

The European Tour and LPGA’s joint event in Australia finished on Sunday. Scotland’s David Law won the men’s portion while France’s Celine Boutier won the women’s portion. Law’s win was much more dramatic as he eagled the final hole to win by one. Boutier won her first professional event of her career on Sunday. Men’s Leaderboard Women’s Leaderboard

The South and Central America swing of the Web.com Tour is over with the finish of the Panama Championship. Michael Gligic won the event at -8 to capture his first career Web.com Tour victory. Gligic has spent much of his career on the Mackenzie Tour, so this victory will be huge for his career. This victory comes during only his 15th career Web.com Tour start and will give him a huge leg up in his attempt to jump to the PGA Tour. Leaderboard

Campus Roundup with Will Knights

It’s not officially college golf season until Oklahoma State wins a tournament. As luck would have it, that is exactly what happened over the weekend. The #1-ranked team won the Amer Ari Invitational by 10 shots over the weekend at 47 under par. Matthew Wolff led the team and won the tournament individually at -18 while Zach Bauchou and Viktor Hovland also finished in the top 8. Wolff has now won all four full-field stroke play events he has played in this season.

OSU has been the most dominant team in college golf over the last season and a half. Their top five will all turn professional in the next couple years. If you have the opportunity to get out and watch this team play this season, do not hesitate.

Bernhard Langer won yet again on the PGA Tour Champions. He won the Oasis Championship by 5 shots on Sunday. Leaderboard
