We’ve reached the final event before the FedEx Cup playoffs: the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club. This event has a different feel now due to the different rules in terms of FedEx Cup standings and eligibility. In past years, we could often get great value on players chasing their PGA Tour card. That’s not really the case this year. But there’s still a consistent theme we see year in and year out at Sedgefield. The same type of players are near the top of the leaderboard. This course is all about placement of your shot off the tee and on approach. Simply put, this is a ball-striker’s paradise, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that many of the same players contend every year. Let’s take a look at three players who traditionally hit the ball exceptionally well at Sedgefield:
Billy Horschel Top 20 +140
Billy comes into this week off an emotional high with a runner up finish at the Open followed by a few weeks off. Horschel has finished 11th or better in five of his last seven appearances at the Wyndham. In all 11 of his starts at Sedgefield, he has gained strokes both off the tee and from tee to green. If he can pair any semblance of his current form with his historical record at the course, he will offer plenty of value for a top-20 wager at +140.
Si Woo Kim Top 20 +140
Si Woo Kim has had very consistent results in 2024, but has gone under the radar because of his lack of high finishes. He’s only missed one cut all year, and he’s placed between 12th and 32nd in 15 of his 20 starts in 2024! Si Woo has also finished in the top five in four of his last seven appearances at the Wyndham. He’s gained at least eight strokes tee to green in five of those seven starts at Sedgefield. If we combine his consistency in 2024 with his historically elite ball-striking at Sedgefield, he has a very good chance to cash a top-20 ticket at +140.
Cameron Davis Top 20 +210
Davis has shown the ability to continue to produce great results at courses where he’s had past success. For evidence, look no further than his win at the Rocket Mortgage earlier this summer. Davis has finished 22nd or better in all three of his appearances at Sedgefield. He is gaining over a stroke per round on the field from tee to green. If he has any semblance of a putter this week, he should contend for a top 20 at a very nice price of +210.
