This week marks the first co-sanctioned Scottish Open between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. This partnership has generated a great field at The Renaissance Club, with 14 of the top 15 players in the world teeing it up (we will miss you Rory). This firm, fast links course will provide a good practice ground for next week’s Open Championship at the Old Course at St. Andrews. In order to succeed this week, a player must be in control of his golf ball and understand how to best attack each hole based on the conditions. Links golf is a different game compared to the entirely aerial game that we are so used to in the states. Let’s take a look at three players who are links specialists:

Ryan Fox $8,500

Most golf fans this side of the pond don’t realize how well Fox has played over the last few months. In his last 10 starts (primarily on the DP World Tour), he has seven top-9 finishes including five top-3 finishes. In the last two weeks, he has finished third at the BMW International Open and second at the Irish Open. He has risen from 211th to 46th in the world over his last 10 events. To make things even better, Fox is an amazing links, player as he has historically performed better on links vs. non-links courses. The $8,500 is a steal of a price for someone with this resume.

Tommy Fleetwood $8,400

Fleetwood is another player who is quietly having a solid 2022 season. He has only missed two cuts in 16 events in 2022 (U.S. Open and Honda Classic). Nine of his 14 cuts made have resulted in finishes of 22nd or better. He just hasn’t been able to put it all together to be in contention often on Sundays. Similar to Fox, Fleetwood is an elite links player so it should come as no surprise that he has finished second and 26th in his two appearances at The Renaissance Club.

Aaron Rai $7,400

Rai made the move over to the PGA Tour this year but is still a bit of an unknown to the average golf fan. He has only missed four cuts in his last 22 events. During that span, he has finished 30th or better 10 times, including a ninth-place finish last week at the Irish Open. Rai is another player who fancies links golf, illustrated by his victory in this event in 2021. At $7,400, you are just looking for a player to make the cut and give you a chance at a top 30 finish. Rai fits that aim perfectly.
