by After a thrilling PGA Championship, we head to the final week of the PGA Tour schedule and the Wyndham Championship. The Wyndham is players’ last chance to earn their way into the top 125 of the FedEx Cup standings and secure a spot in the playoffs and full status for 2018. With the pressure on, I expect a few guys who are on the bubble to play well and secure their cards for the 2018-2019 season. Sedgefield is an old Donald Ross that’s playing firm and fast. The course should get softened up with the predicted weekend rains, but the early week conditions should put a premium on precision.
Draftkings
Shane Lowry – $10,000 – 139th in FedEx Cup standings
Lowry was in the mix at the PGA before a Sunday fade moved him into a tie for 12th. It was Lowry’s third consecutive top-15 finish, a run that has moved him within shouting distance of the top 125. Lowry will look to continue his streak of good finishes at a course he finished t9th at last year.
Steve Stricker – $8200 – 141st in FedEx Cup standings
The ageless Steve Stricker risks losing his PGA Tour card and will tee it up at the Wyndham for the first time in years.The course should fit Stricker’s game as it’s not dependent on power. Stricker has made his last six cuts dating back to the Players and will look to play his way back into the top 125.
Tom Lovelady – $7000 – 130th in FedEx Cup standings
The rookie is one of the Tour’s longest players and is on the bubble to make the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The University of Alabama talent ranks 21st on the Tour in par breakers. With his back against the wall, I expect Lovelady to have a few less bogeys and find himself in the mix.
One and done
Julian Suri
Suri has surged up the world rankings over the past 18 months and arrived on the mainstream map with last week’s t19th at the PGA Championship. At the PGA, Suri finished 3rd in SG: Approach, which I expect to carry over into another strong performance this week.
Joaquin Niemann
After a fast start at last week’s PGA Championship, Niemann struggled over the weekend. That being said, if you haven’t used him in your one-and-done leagues, now might be the time. Since, turning pro earlier this year, Niemann has four top-10 finishes and hasn’t missed a cut in his last five starts.
