Leona Maguire's Ace, Charley Hull's Collapse and More From the Evian Championship
What you missed from the first round in France

The first-round broadcast of the Amundi Evian Championship was wrapped up before many on the West Coast had their first cup of coffee. If you didn't tune in during the wee hours of the morning, you missed an eventful opening day. Even if you did set an alarm and fired up the early morning action, you still didn't get to see the highlight of the day.
Leona Maguire, tied for the early lead with four others at 6 under, aced the 164-yard second hole, her first hole-in-one on tour. Here's the only evidence we have of the ace:

No video, just a handful of photos from the photographers. It's true there are fewer cameras out there during a women's golf broadcast, but it's inexcusable not to have a camera on every par 3 during a major. Hopefully this is the worst faux pas of the week. Don't forget that last year on Sunday the broadcast failed to show the drive on the 18th of eventual champion Ayaka Furue.
While we all missed out on seeing the ace, Charley Hull will miss out on the rest of the championship. In a scary turn of events, Hull was carted off the golf course after collapsing twice on the fourth hole. Announcer Richard Kaufman informed viewers she had been suffering from a virus. Here's to a speedy recovery with the final major of the year just a few weeks away.

Nelly Korda didn't miss much of anything on the greens on Thursday. The putter carried her on a day where she looked like a mere mortal off the tee, missing multiple fairways at the tight layout of Evian Resort Golf Club. Perhaps she was aiming for sister Jess, the on-course reporter for her group. Korda was able to put together a 4-under 67, birdieing three of the four par 5s, and was hopeful that a range session and FaceTime with coach Jamie Murray would straighten things out.
It's early, but Evian is on its way to crowning yet another big-name winner. In addition to Maguire and Korda, Minjee Lee and Mao Saigo, two of this year’s major winners, had good showings on Thursday. Defending champion Ayaka Furue is in the mix just two shots back, along with last week's Irish Open winner and amateur extraordinaire Lottie Woad at 3 under. None of those names will get as much attention from the French fans as 2023 winner and countrywoman Celine Boutier, who is at 3 under, as well. With plenty of star power in the mix, they might need to add a few more cameras to make sure nothing gets missed over the next three days.
