Course Information
Essex County Country Club
In a state as golf rich as New Jersey, Essex County Country Club is undoubtedly among the best. Designed in part by three of the best architects in history - Seth Raynor, Charles Banks, and A.W. Tillinghast - Essex has a deep history and architecture equally as brilliant. Its back nine is often mentioned among the best back nines in golf and its front nine is just as entertaining.
The blend of different architects at Essex is a special one. There are distinct holes where you can feel Seth Raynor's influence, others that scream Charles Banks, and more that retain A.W. Tillinghast's style from his original design. You'll see Raynor's Redan green on Nos. 15 and 17, deep Banks bunkers fronting No. 9 and around No. 11, and even find a Tillinghast Great Hazard on No. 8. The combination of architectural influence works together so well at Essex and really creates one of the more unique experiences in golf.
Travel Information
- AIRPORTS - Newark International Airport (EWR) is your best option as it is a short 20-minute drive to Essex. JFK and LaGuardia are also options.
- HOTELS - The Courtyard West Orange and Cambria West Orange are just down the road from Essex. Or if you want to make a bigger trip out of the event, New York City is just 20 miles away.
Course Overview
A.W. Tillinghast's 1917 design, redone by Raynor and Banks in 1926, is New Jersey's oldest country club, recently renovated by Gil Hanse.
