Fried Egg Golf’s Holiday Travel Content

Some videos and podcasts to keep you busy as you travel this holiday season

by

We’ve had a productive month of December and are happy to bring you some entertainment as you move around at the end of the year. Whether you’re getting on a plane or hopping in the car, we have something on tap for you.

Teaching Turf: Sand Valley

Fresh off the presses this week is our documentary covering the turf team at Sand Valley. Throughout this year, members from our team made trips to the resort to meet up with the superintendents, assistants, and interns on the Sand Valley grounds crew. Teaching Turf: Sand Valley goes behind the scenes of their day-to-day operations, showing how the staff maintains one of the busiest golf resorts in the country.

You can watch the full documentary on our YouTube channel.

Fried Egg Golf Podcast

This week began a new set of podcasts that we’re calling our “Great Courses” series. These episodes will tell the stories of some of the best and most influential golf courses in history. Our first two installments on the Old Course at St. Andrews and National Golf Links are out now.

How the Old Course Became the Old Course

Golf architect and historian Scott Macpherson joined Garrett for the first installment of our “Great Courses” podcast series, featuring deep dives into some of the most influential courses in history. This episode dispels some of the myths surrounding the Old Course’s history and discusses how the links took on their modern form. Listen on iTunes and Spotify.

C.B. Macdonald’s Big Swing

The second installment of our “Great Courses” series dives into the story of National Golf Links of America. Chris Millard, co-author of a 2016 history of NGLA, joined Garett to discuss C.B. Macdonald’s masterpiece and its influence on golf architecture in America. Listen on iTunes and Spotify.

The Shotgun Start

Over on The Shotgun Start, Andy and Brendan completed Year in Review. Yes, really. You can listen to all nine parts — some of which includes some current events discussion — in your podcast feeds now. Listen on iTunes or Spotify.

George Thomas in Los Angeles

Ahead of the U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club, our team put together a documentary on the life of golf architect George Thomas. Specifically, we focused on LACC, Bel-Air Country Club, and Riviera Country Club, Thomas’s three L.A. designs. Watch on YouTube.

Dunbar Golf Club – East Lothian’s Underrated Links

Garrett Morrison and Andy Johnson take us through the fantastic East Lothian links, Dunbar Golf Club. An often overlooked course when traveling through Scotland, this is a must-see and is located less than 15 miles from North Berwick. Watch on YouTube.
