The first match of the TGL, the simulator-golf league featuring many of the top players on the PGA Tour, takes place tonight, January 7 on ESPN at 9 p.m. ET.

I, for one, am very excited about its debut. One amusing note: equipment guru Jonathan Wall posted that golfers are toying with different driver specs to maximize distance for the simulator holes. Personally, I’d love to hear a player’s rationale on why it took a simulator league to experiment with gaining distance, one of the most reliable advantages in real golf! It’s not like the TGL golf holes have 1,000-yard wide fairways.

Relatedly, is there a 14-club maximum rule for how many clubs you can carry in TGL? Whether there is or isn’t, I think I would absolutely carry two drivers if I were participating in this league – one that I can keep under control and one that I can bomb away with.

Equipment tweaks could be an interesting subplot of the TGL action.
