I regret to inform you all that the Cubs are playing decent baseball again and I may have to start including them in WOWgr moving forward. Please stay tuned.

Need a refresher on WOWgr rules?

Vol. 2023.26

No. 1 – Ruoning Yin (Up 34 spots from last week) – Ladies and gentlemen, Rose Zhang’s run atop of the WOWgr rankings has come to an end. She made a valiant effort at Baltusrol last Sunday, but Ruoning Yin held strong on her way to a major-championship title. Yin’s performance on the weekend at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship was beyond impressive and more than deserving of the top spot this week. At the age of 20, she has two titles in 2023 and a spot in the top five of the Rolex Rankings (another ranking system). Yin has had a hell of a season so far and is likely just getting started.

No. 2 – Scottie Scheffler (Up 1) – Mr. Scheffler is getting dangerously close to going a full calendar year without finishing worse than T-12 in a tournament. His run of form ranks fourth in the best stretches of the last 30 years, according to Data Golf—better than Jon Rahm’s dominant stretch earlier this season.

No. 3 – Rose Zhang (Down 2) – It wasn’t a big fall for the former No. 1 player in WOWgr, as she did manage a T-8 in her first major-championship start as a professional. On a week when many big names no-showed, Zhang was a big factor on Sunday. She’ll need to get that putter dialed in a bit more, but no one is going to complain about a win and a top 10 in her first two starts as a pro.

No. 12 – Tron Carter (Up 11) – Ludvig Aberg shot a first-round 65 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and may be on the way to a European Ryder Cup berth. We owe Aberg’s success, future, indeed his very creation to one man. Thank you, TC.

No. 15 – Friendship (Up 2) – Sergio García says he and Rory McIlroy have mended fences after a falling-out last year. I’ve searched for hours and have no idea what could have come between them, but I’m glad they’re friends again.

No. 19 – Gobbledygook (Up 29) – Phil Mickelson spoke ahead of the LIV event at Valderrama. It wasn’t exactly coherent, but he spoke. Oh, and he’s selling capes now. So that’s cool.

No. 222 – Saying what you mean (Down 111) – What the hell is David Duval talking about? Aimpoint? PIF? How guacamole isn’t actually good?

No. 481 – Country club members (Down 440) – Do you pay to be a member at a reality-based golf course? Sucker. You could be a virtual member of a virtual Nicklaus Design golf course for basically the same price.

No. 431 – Coups (Down 388) – They were so hot last week but now they may be out of style. Following an opinion piece from Eamon Lynch, Adam Scott said on Instagram that reports of Patrick Cantlay’s attempted takeover of the PGA Tour were overblown. Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, and Will Zalatoris reshared the post. No doubt there are many sides to this situation, but certain tour pros have a history of lashing out at media as a way of deflecting attention from stories that don’t serve their interests, so there’s that.
