Andrew Green on Restoring (and Renovating) Inverness Club
The Diversity of Donald Ross with Andrew Green
Andrew Green began his career in golf like many others did, as a cart boy and maintenance worker at his local country club. There, his infatuation with the intricacies of the game led him to pursue a degree in landscape architecture at Virginia Tech, where he graduated in 2001. Soon after completing his degree, Green landed a job with McDonald & Sons, a mid-Atlantic golf course design firm specializing in restoration and renovation services. For 14 years, Green operated as a senior designer for the firm, exposing himself to high-profile renovation projects at some of the country’s most prestigious courses, Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, Pine Valley Golf Club, and Oakmont Country Club, among others.
After a successful stint with McDonald & Sons, Green ventured out on his own, establishing his solo design company, A.H. Green Design/Green Golf & Turf Inc.. He remained in the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast, building up his reputation as a budding restoration and renovation expert by working on a diverse set of projects. In 2018, Green completed his first high-profile renovation at Inverness Club, a Donald Ross design in Toledo, Ohio. Soon after, Green began work on another Ross creation, the East Course at Oak Hill Country Club. He finished this historically inspired project in 2020, readying the course for the 2023 PGA Championship. In 2021, Green wrapped up an ambitious set of changes to Congressional Country Club’s Blue Course in Bethesda, Maryland, reinventing a venue that is set to become one of the PGA of America’s most frequented sites over the next 20 years.
Alongside his influence on future major championship venues, Green has finished historical renovation jobs at Scioto Country Club (2023), and Wannamoisett Country Club (2022), two former major championship hosts. Most recently, Green oversaw revamps of East Lake Country Club (2024), home of the PGA Tour’s Tour Championship, and Interlachen Country Club (2024), a Donald Ross design just outside of Minneapolis.
Green’s list of future projects extends to a number of years into the future, and his extensive restoration and renovation work will certainly be an integral part of the next 20 years of major championship golf.

Recently redesigned by Andrew Green, Congressional Blue is a brawny modern championship venue with clever design, state-of-the-art conditioning, and a somewhat artificial aesthetic
