Brooks Koepka Might Be Peaking for the PGA

A win at LIV Singapore might be enough to put the PGA Championship field on notice

In unfortunate news for male professional golfers everywhere, the most decorated major champion of the last decade showed some form this weekend as Brooks Koepka won LIV Singapore by two strokes. That’s a notable development as we approach the PGA Championship, a tournament Koepka has won three times in the last six years.

Since the start of 2017, Brooks has finished in the top 2 of major championships nine times, five of which were wins. No other golfer has finished in the top 2 more than four times over that period. When Koepka is in form, he is a proven killer on the biggest stages in golf.

Much like Scottie Scheffler, Brooks Koepka’s best golf is relentless. He peppers the centers of greens and holes the high-leverage putts that many other players fail to make in similar positions. He looks like he’s on cruise control.

Following his win in Singapore, Koepka said “It’s a great feeling when it kind of feels easy.” Whether or not golf continues to feel easy for Koepka remains to be seen; 54 holes is a small sample size from which to draw any grand conclusions. However, Brooks didn’t flash much form in 2023 prior to winning at LIV Orlando last April, and he followed it up with a near win at the Masters and a fairly comfortable win at the PGA.

The PGA Championship is just two weeks away. Entering the second major of 2024, Scottie Scheffler remains the clear favorite, and for good reason. But in his final tune-up prior to Valhalla, Brooks Koepka demonstrated why very few, if any, non-Scheffler names should be favored more at the PGA.

Joseph LaMagna

I grew up playing golf competitively and caddied for ten years. I've also always enjoyed - usually responsibly - betting on sports. These worlds collided when I went to college, where I spent an absurd amount of time watching PGA Tour Live and building models to predict golf.

When I heard Andy on a podcast for the first time, I immediately knew I'd found a voice I wanted to follow. The intersection between design and strategy captivated me, and I've consumed just about every piece of Fried Egg Golf content since then. While I was finishing up my studies at UT-Austin, I worked for 15th Club (now 21st Club), a company that does data consulting for professional golfers. Upon graduation, I started Optimal Approach Golf, which provides data and strategy recommendations to professional and high-level amateur golfers. I've been full-time with Fried Egg Golf since January of 2024.
