Paulie’s Picks: 2025 Genesis Scottish Open
It's links season, which means a slight change in the type of player set for success in Scotland

This week we’re heading across the pond for the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club. This co-sanctioned event between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour features the best players from both tours as many look to prepare for next week’s Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
This is the seventh year that the Renaissance Club has held this event, so we do have a good idea of what is needed to succeed here. This isn’t a stereotypical seaside links, but it does place an emphasis on both aerial shots and controlling the ball on the ground. Long hitters have had more success here than short hitters due to the placement of the bunkers, but when all is said and done, you need to strike your ball well, be patient, and hope Mother Nature provides you a good weather draw. Whenever you have an event like this, I suggest making fewer bets due to its unpredictable nature. Let’s focus on the two best bets of the week:
Thomas Detry: Top 40, +110
Thomas Detry has finished 43rd or better in all six of his appearances at the Renaissance Club. He is arguably playing some of the best golf of his career right now. He won earlier this season at the WM Phoenix Open and played well a few weeks ago at the U.S. Open. He is on the outside looking in for the Ryder Cup and would like nothing more than to be in contention this week to put his name in the mix for a captain’s pick. Detry is above average in length and has excelled historically when faced with a links-like test.
Parlay: Tommy Fleetwood and Xander Schauffele to Make the Cut, -140
Tommy Fleetwood has made the cut in all five appearances at this course. Since the beginning of 2019, he has only missed 14 cuts worldwide, with only three missed cuts since the start of the 2024 season. He is the poster child for consistency and he loves links golf. I would be utterly surprised to see him miss the cut this week.
Xander Schauffele has made the cut in each of his four appearances at this event, highlighted by a win in 2022. When was the last time Schauffele missed a cut, you may ask? How about the Masters in 2022! Similar to Fleetwood, I would be extremely surprised to see Schauffele falter and break his streak at this event.
