We’re off and running at Royal Troon. Drop in your thoughts on the first day of action in the comment section!
Some notes from the early morning action
Is this JT performance real? – Justin Thomas got off to a hot start before running into some trouble on the back nine. He birdied the final hole to grab the early clubhouse lead. He has never recorded a top-10 finish at the Open but he did play well early at the Scottish Open last week.
Loving the Postage Stamp – The pin on the par-3 8th is about as easy as it will get all week but we’ve seen many players struggle significantly on the short hole. With the wind down and off the left, a ton of right-handers are struggling to keep it left and find the putting surface.
This isn’t Pinehurst – Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy are in trouble. The two main characters from Pinehurst are well over par and in big time danger of missing the cut.
On Twitter, Garrett and Brendan chronicled the struggles of Todd Hamilton.
The not-so-easy front nine – Historically, the front nine at Royal Troon is the easier side. But with the wind coming out of the south and playing into most holes on the front, the opening side is actually playing more difficult that the closing nine so far.
