Thomas Edison famously found 10,000 ways not to make a lightbulb. Up until Sunday evening, Kevin Tway had found 90 ways not to win a PGA Tour event. The 91st way went his way, and for the first time in his career he walked away a PGA Tour winner at the Safeway Open. When the #Gainz Pay Off

Tway’s first win came in a hard fought playoff victory over PGA Tour veterans Brandt Snedeker and Ryan Moore. Snedeker had an uncharacteristically poor Sunday, and that opened the door for others to catch him. Tway and Moore birdied the first two playoff holes, knocking Snedeker out in the process, and then Tway was able to win the event with a birdie on the 3rd playoff hole.

Kevin Tway has been on the cusp of being a household name for a while now. His 2017 and 2018 PGA Tour seasons were the best of his career but still left him outside of the top 70 of the FedEx Cup rankings each year. His top-10 finishes have started to mount, but he had not had his signature moment just yet. On Sunday, he birdied his last two holes of regulation and all three in the playoff. In my book, that will count as a signature moment. He brought his all-around game this week, finishing in the top 21 in all strokes gained categories. I fully expect him to get into contention multiple times this year, and I’d even say he will win again.

The Ones Who Got Away

This tournament is going to sting for Brandt Snedeker. He had been on cruise control over the weekend before faltering to four bogies on his closing eight holes. Seeking his 10th career PGA Tour victory, he was unable to make a birdie on the closing 18th hole and was eventually ousted in the playoff. This one will hurt for Sneds, but he has played some solid golf over the last three months so keep an eye on him throughout the fall season and into 2019.

Ryan Moore is one of the most consistent players on Tour. He hasn’t won since 2016, but he always is in the mix a couple times per year and will find himself between 30 and 70 in the FedExCup rankings come September. After a T12 at The Open and a T6 at the Wyndham, it appears that his game is working in the right direction.

Other Notes

Sungjae Im is the real deal. He won the Web.com Tour money list handily and finished T4 this week. Expect big things from him this year.

Former tour staple Aaron Baddeley has to Monday qualify this week but worked himself up to a T4 finish.

A Doughnut Without a Hole Is a Danish

Lucas Bjerregaard won his second career European Tour event on Friday with a closing 67 at the Old Course. The Dane started the day four shots behind leader Tyrrell Hatton but quickly chased down the Englishman and closed out the victory with a bogey on the road hole. Due to high winds and poor conditions in the forecast, the players were sent out as a shotgun start (shoutout Andy and Brendan) for the final round. Hatton finished one shot back with Tommy Fleetwood while Brooks Koepka tied for 7th place. In his last three Dunhill Links Championships, Tyrrell Hatton has two wins and a runner-up. Leaderboard

Hometown Team

Host country Korea won the 2nd edition of the UL International Crown by four points over the USA. Team Korea won three points in the singles portion of the event on Sunday and coasted to an easy victory. Heavily favored coming into the event, the Koreans did not disappoint. They only lost two of their ten matches during the course of the week and provided great fanfare for their fans. Final Scores
