Paulie’s Picks: 2018 Mayakoba

A look at who Paulie likes for the 2018 Mayakoba

by

This week, the Tour heads to Mexico for the Mayakoba Golf Classic. The event is hosted at El Camaleon Golf Club, which is a narrow golf course that rewards accuracy over power. Players who can control their ball have a large advantage this week. This seaside course is often very windy, which makes the narrow layout all the more difficult.

DraftKings:

Gary Woodland $10,700

Woodland has been on a heater lately, finishing 12th or better in his last five starts. He came close to victory here in 2016, finishing runner-up to Pat Perez. He is a very good pivot option from the top three players this week.

Russell Henley $7,100

Henley will go under-owned after missing the cut last week. He showed promise in the 2nd round last week, rallying back to narrowly miss the cut. This course plays fairly similarly to the Sony Open where he won a few years ago. When Henley is on, he makes birdies by the bunches. He is a great option for large-field tournaments.

Brian Stuard $6,900

Stuard is another player who will go overlooked this week based solely on name recognition. He has really good history at this course, finishing in the top 10 in three of his last five appearances (including two runner-up finishes). His game is based on plodding around the course and hitting solid iron shots.

One-and-Done:

Emiliano Grillo

Grillo is an elite ball-striker whose game suits this track very well. He has produced top-10 finishes each of the last two years. He comes into this event in good form, finishing 2nd at the CIMB Classic and 14th at the WGC event in China.

Abraham Ancer

Ancer has been rock-solid the last six months, including a few chances at victory. He now heads to his home country to try to capture his first victory on the PGA Tour. He finished 9th here a year ago. He comes into this event in good form, finishing in the top 5 in two of his last three starts.
