Easy trip this week: Japan to Bermuda! The field at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship is one of the weakest I’ve seen on the PGA Tour. They’ve literally run out of alternates. So, if nothing else, it should be an interesting week for fantasy golf.
Here are a few players to target at the short and windy Port Royal Golf Course this week:
Chad Ramey $9,500
I may end up using Ramey for a large portion of the 2021-22 season. He is one of the most consistent players on the PGA Tour that no one knows about. He has missed only one cut in his past 29 events across the Korn Ferry and PGA tours—and he missed that one cut by just a single shot. In a terrible field like this, he should be able to make another cut at least, and he could very well contend. Ramey leads the field in par-5 scoring and is top 30 in birdies, off the tee, approach, proximity with long irons, and proximity inside 150 yards, all of which are key metrics at the Bermuda Championship.
Mark Hubbard $7,900
Hubbard has quietly made 13 of his past 16 cuts and has placed T-44 and T-16 in his first two starts of the 2021-22 season. He ranks fifth in par-5 scoring, fifth around the green, seventh in driving accuracy, 13th on approach, and 20th in putting. Hubbard’s main weakness is his lack of distance off the tee, but that doesn’t matter as much as usual at Port Royal. Remember, the last two winners here were Brendon Todd and Brian Gay.
Hank Lebioda $7,500
Lebioda ranks second in birdies, third in putting, and 11th on approach. He’s also top 25 in driving accuracy, par-5 scoring, long-iron proximity, and short-iron proximity. At the Bermuda Championship, he has finished third and 16th in his two career appearances. Still, his price tag is just $7,500 in a weak field, so he’s a great option this week.
