After a break for the Ryder Cup, the PGA Tour will resume its 2021-22 season this week with the Sanderson Farms Championship at the Country Club of Jackson.
The handicapping for this event is pretty simple. Players need three key skills to succeed at this course: wedge play, putting on Bermudagrass greens, and driving distance. If you have two of those three dialed in, you can contend at the Sanderson. If you excel at all three, you will probably win.
Here are a few players who fit that mold and would make good plays in your fantasy leagues this week:
Sam Burns $11,000
Burns is the second-ranked player overall in my model this week, as he is second in putting, fourth in birdies, sixth in par-5 scoring, and eighth in approach. He also putts best on fast Bermuda greens like those at the Country Club of Jackson. Burns has made three of four cuts at the Sanderson Farms Championship, including a third-place finish. Also, he has finished 21st or better in six of his past seven starts.
Charley Hoffman $9,000
Hoffman is a perfect fit for this event. The top overall player in my model, he ranks first in approach, first in birdies, and second in par-5 scoring. He’s also top 20 in putting, wedge play, and driving distance. In two appearances at the Sanderson, he has finished sixth and 23rd. Lately, Hoffman has been a model of consistency, finishing in the top 40 in 12 of his past 15 events and missing only one cut in his past 17 starts.
Adam Schenk $6,700
Schenk is No. 10 in my model: 11th in par-5 scoring, 12th in putting, 19th in birdies, and top 40 in driving distance, approach, off the tee, and wedge play. He has made 12 of his past 15 cuts, most against better fields than this week’s, and has finished 43rd or better in all four of his appearances at the Country Club of Jackson.
