2024 Club TFE Trip to Lawsonia Links, The Lido, and Sedge Valley

Details regarding the 2024 Club TFE trip through Wisconsin

by

We’re heading to Wisconsin this fall for a three-day golf bender with Club TFE. First, we’ll visit Green Lake for our fifth annual Steamshovel at Lawsonia Links. From there, we head to Sand Valley to visit the resort’s two newest courses, The Lido and Sedge Valley. Both designs are among the most unique projects built in recent years and provide exciting new frontiers for golf architecture. Come this September, we’ll play all three — Lawsonia Links, The Lido, and Sedge Valley — when playing conditions are at their peak in Wisconsin.

Registration process

We will be using a lottery system for this registration. The lottery will be free to enter. Entrants will select the number of players they are registering for (1 or 2) and their preferred lodging selection. Entrance to the lottery will be open from 1:00 p.m. ET on February 13 to 1:00 p.m. ET on February 15. Those randomly selected will be notified on Friday, February 16.

Participants selected will be contacted in the order their names are drawn and lodging requests will be filled based on priority of registration. The first registration chosen gets first pick, etc. Invoices will be sent out once the lodging selection is finalized.

You can enter for up to two spots in the lottery. All registrants must be Club TFE members.

If you register separately for the Steamshovel, you will not be billed for that portion when we finalize your spot(s) at The Lido and Sedge Valley. Being in the lottery does not guarantee you a spot in the Steamshovel so please sign up for that separately if you want to guarantee your place at Lawsonia.

Why you should see Lawsonia Links, The Lido, and Sedge Valley

Lawsonia Links – If you’ve followed Fried Egg Golf for any length of time, you likely know that Lawsonia is one of our favorite spots in the country. The course’s architecture stands the test of time, providing numerous thrilling shots throughout. We’re even more excited for 2024 thanks to the work the ownership has done to improve the course. Over the last two years, they have redone all the bunkers and increased fairway widths, helping expose even more of the brilliance in Langford & Moreau’s design. This will also be the first year we host the Steamshovel in the fall, a time of year in which the course plays its best. Expect a firm and fiery Lawsonia Links come September.

The Lido – Many are familiar with the story of The Lido, but it’s worth reiterating the process required in order for the course to exist today. Originally designed by C.B. Macdonald on Long Island, The Lido was thought to be lost to history when the club closed during World War II. Thanks to a tremendous feat of engineering and technology, Michael and Chris Keiser worked with consultant Peter Flory and architects Tom Doak and Brian Schneider to recreate The Lido in the middle of Wisconsin. The design features tremendous land movement and an all-world set of green complexes, all contoured using Lidar data of Macdonald’s layout. What’s most special about The Lido is the way in which the course reveals itself with each play, letting you unearth its strategic secrets a little bit at a time. Its recreation is a significant achievement and a major addition to the American golf landscape.

Sedge Valley – Set to open in the Summer of 2024, Sedge Valley is a unique project from the mind of Tom Doak. He has long been a practitioner of the unconventional when it comes to golf course architecture and course design. At Sedge Valley, he got the chance to really explore. The course maxes out around 6,200 yards at a par 68, placing an emphasis on playability and variety. The course features five par 3s, one par 5, and a wide mix of par 4 designs that vary significantly in length. Sedge Valley was designed with playable options in mind for every skill level, allowing everyone to feel a sense of risk and reward throughout the round. It’s a design that bucks convention when it comes to traditional golf course architecture, creating an experience unlike many others in the country.

In the area

Whether you’re a Wisconsin sports fan or not, both Lambeau Field (Packers) and American Family Field (Brewers) are worth the visit. The Brewers are in town for a series with the Phillies beginning on Monday, September 16. And for those looking for even better baseball, Wrigley Field isn’t that much farther away. The Cubs host the Oakland A’s beginning on September 16.

September is the perfect time to visit the Midwest. Take full advantage of the weather with a visit down to Milwauwkee (2 hours from Lawsonia) and/or Chicago (3 hours from Lawsonia). Both are terrific cities with plenty going on in September.
