Blake Conant
A fine arts graduate who co-designed Old Barnwell with Brian Schneider and continues to work frequently on Renaissance Golf Design projects, bringing an eccentric, artistic flair to golf course design.

Blake Conant grew up in Nebraska and studied painting at the University of Montana, where he graduated in 2009. He went on to receive a Masters in landscape architecture from the University of Georgia in 2013. In the summers of 2011 and 2012, while pursuing his Masters, Conant worked, respectively, as a landscape intern at the Atlanta Athletic Club and a shaper for Tom Doak at Dismal River Red. After completing his degree, he worked maintenance at Sand Hills Golf Club and as a bunker shaper under Renaissance Golf Design’s Brian Schneider at Medinah Course 1 and Hollywood Golf Club (2013).
Conant’s next opportunities came on the West Coast, where he helped Origins Golf Design’s Todd Eckenrode with bunkers and greens at Brentwood Country Club, The Quail Lodge & Golf Club, and Virginia Country Club in 2014 and 2015. He continued partnering with Eckenrode in later years, at Cabo San Lucas for Twin Dolphin Golf Club (2017) and back in Southern California for El Niguel Country Club (2018).
In 2015, Conant teamed with other Renaissance Golf Design associates Schneider, Eric Iverson, and Don Placek to design a course without the input of their boss Tom Doak at Stoatin Brae. Conant went on to work on many projects for Doak’s firm and its associates in the late 2010s and early 2020s, including new builds at the Gunnamatta Course at The National Golf Club (2018), St. Patrick’s Links (2021), and Pinehurst No. 10 (2023). For the renovation of Llanerch Country Club (2020), Conant worked as a co-architect with Brian Schneider. Conant has also done shaping work for another leader in contemporary architecture, Gil Hanse, at his renovations of Oakland Hills Country Club, Denver Country Club, and Lakewood Country Club, all in 2020.
In 2023, with longtime collaborator and fellow Renaissance Golf Design associate Brian Schneider, Conant co-designed Old Barnwell, to widespread acclaim.
