One more week in paradise for the PGA Tour. The Sony Open is historically a tough track for fantasy golf in that the course suits many players games and there are many new faces on Tour. With that being said, here are 3 players to build your DraftKings lineup around:
Charles Howell $7,800
2,3,8,13,26…did I just give you the winning lottery numbers? Those are actually Charles Howell’s finishes over the past 5 years at the Sony Open. Howell is a borderline must play this week at $7,800 as he provides consistency and upside at a reduced price. P.S. If you do play those numbers in the lottery and win feel free share some of the jackpot with me!
Harris English $7,500
English has finally reunited with his PING equipment (which he played during his only 2 career victories back in 2013). Combining familiar equipment with a course that suits his eye, he could be a sneaky pick to win this week. He is 5 for 5 in cuts at this event with 3 top 10s. At $7,500, that is more than enough reason to plug him in the lineup.
Hudson Swafford $7,000
Swafford has had success in his 3 starts at the Sony Open with 2 top 10s. He is a very consistent player as he hasn’t missed a cut in almost 8 months!!!!! Early in the year, I will gladly take an automatic cut with some upside and plug him in my lineup.
One-and Done
Jimmy Walker
Walker will be the most picked player this week and for good reason. He won here in 2014 and 2015 after blitzing the course. We saw a glimpse of that player last week as he came out of the gates charging at Kapalua. Look for him to be in contention come Sunday.
Soren Kjeldsen
If you are not looking to burn a pick this week, then look no further than this Euro. He has a really good course fit as he keeps it in play and has an excellent short game. He has 6 straight top 40s worldwide including a 4th place finish in his last event at the DP World Tour Championship (final event of Euro Tour). By taking him this week, you allow yourself to save Walker or another player for later in the year.
