We have finally arrived at the Tour Championship at East Lake, where a FedEx Cup champion will be crowned. The top 30 in the standings will start at varying scores from -10 to even par. This creates some interesting betting opportunities. To make things even more complicated this week, East Lake underwent a complete renovation by Andrew Green over the last year which has made the course feel and play completely different, according to initial reports from players.

That said, while many of the holes are different, the overall mantra of the course remains: solid approach shots are required, otherwise players will face difficult attempts at par. So even though the course is different, we can still lean on how players have played here in the past as a similar skill set will likely be favored.

Some bets to look at this week:

Round 1 Matchup: Rory McIlroy +120 over Scottie Scheffler (Fanduel)

Scottie has struggled historically at East Lake, finishing outside the top 10 in raw scoring each of the last three years. Rory has finished in the top two in raw scoring in four of his last nine appearances. He comes the week with a need for a good opening round, as he begins the event six shots behind the leaders. Scheffler comes to Atlanta after arguably his worst ball-striking week of the year at the BMW, while also potentially dealing with some back soreness. Getting Rory in round one at plus money is a bet that’s hard to pass up.

Lowest Round 1 Score: Rory McIlroy +1200 (DK)

Given his aforementioned starting position, Rory needs a hot start in order to contend for the tournament victory. I could see him playing very aggressively on Thursday in order to chase down Scottie and Xander. 12/1 seems more than fair for a player who has arguably the most upside in the field when it comes to posting a low round.

Sepp Straka Top 20 -125 (FD/DK)

I know Straka is starting in 21st at one-under par this week, but he should cash this bet easily if he continues his elite iron form. We are just looking for a middle of the pack finish in raw scoring to cash this bet. He has finished sixth in raw scoring each of the last two seasons here, when he was arguably a slightly worse player than he is now.

Justin Thomas Top 20 -150 (FD/DK)

Similar to Straka, Thomas is starting behind the 8-ball this week, at even par in 26th place. But JT has historically played very well here. In his last seven appearances at the Tour Championship, he has finished in the top nine in raw scoring for the week. Any performance remotely close to that will yield a top-20 finish. Should he not have his best game to start the week, the impending Presidents Cup selections could motivate him to grind it out more than normal, too.
